Have you just installed a new graphic card on your PC or do you have a software putting on your notebook and would you like to know what effects on the speed? Or do you have the impression that your system becomes increasingly slow and aren’t you sure you can only imagine it? A reference test provides answers to these questions. Because you can use it to fully check your computer or individual performance components. In this article we present various benchmark tests for PC for Windows 10 and we show what values you can measure with it.
A point of reference is a reference and comparison value determined by a benchmarking process. This can be used to determine and evaluate the performance of IT systems.
In the IT area, a basic distinction is made between Benchmark Hardware, software and benchmark benchmark of applications.
The program presented in this article can be used completely or at least the basic version for free. The latter is usually completely sufficient for domestic use.
1. The best reference tools for Windows 10 at a glance
1.1. Passark performance test
With a passark, a detailed performance test undergoes your PC and receive detailed information on the hardware installed in it. Upon request, the software performs a component load test such as CPU, graphics card or memory and represents the results as a clear bar diagram. For example, mathematical operations, encryption and physical calculations are used to determine the processor output. The passmark also shows an evaluation in which a score for the final result is issued. It is therefore possible to export all the results in HTML, TXT, GIF or BMP format.

In addition to various standard tests, the software also has a series of configurable «advanced tests» (for example for network components or CD and DVD units), as well as a load test for performance monitoring. Passmark does not only test complex 3D applications and animations to determine the performance of the GPU, but also the 4K resolution. This in turn requires Directx 12, OpenCL and DirectCompute. On the other hand, 2D graphic tests are performed on the basis of bitmap, characters, text, elements of the GUI and carriers.
Passmark is for all versions of 8.1 Windows. or the server editions available since 2003. There are also mobile variants for iOS and Android, with which it is possible to determine the performance of your smartphone or tablet. You can use the software for 30 days without registration, but you need to buy a paid license.
Good to know: Passmark is also available as a portable version, which can be used, for example, from a USB stick or an external hard drive.

1.2. PCMark 10
PCMark 10 is a large PC benchmarking tool that measures PC performance in real operating conditions by simulating daily work on the PC. Various parameters are used to determine performance. After the race, the program spits the result and a detailed breakage of the individual tests. The overall performance are displayed in the form of a slice that you can compare with the results of other users.
Good to know: In the free basic version of PCMark 10, you can only view the online results, but not save on your computer. In addition, only the first test is available.

PCMark 10 has been designed so that you can compare as many different systems as possible (e.g. notebook, tablets, smartphones or PCs). In addition, the software also measures the performance in the starting areas, calculation sheet, rendering and display, photo editing (GIMP) and video editing. There are three different sectors available for the individual test:
- House Send typical requirements for standard users, such as writing on the PC, surfing the internet, games or photographic editing and videos.
- Creative He also takes into account the media conversions, while
- Work It is only tailor -made for special requirements.
In the advanced and professional editions, the developers provide further tests. This allows you, for example, checks the performance of HDDS and SSD or the battery life of mobile devices. There are also possible programs and exams compiled individually.

PCMark 10 requires at least 4 GB of RAM and 6 GB of free solid slats and is compatible only with Windows 10 (1607), Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1.
1.3. Furmark
Geeks3d’s Furmark tests the stability of the graphic card based on PC benchmarks. For this purpose, the freeware allows a hairy donut to rotate on the screen with the help of OpenGL 2.0 and in the meantime measures the frequency of the frames. Two further sources of dynamic light ensure that the GPU and memory really get sweating.

Before starting the test, you can determine whether you want to perform it in the window or in the whole screen mode, which resolution should be used and from which type (stability or benchmark) should be. The duration and the MSAA samples are also configurable individually. Alternatively, you can also simply choose between one of the four predefined presets (4k/Uhd, QHD, FHD, HD).
While the donut extends, Furmark shows the chosen mode, resolution, clock speeds (for GPU and RAM), as well as the temperature of the calculation core and the fan speed. If the temperature exceeds a certain limit during the process, the temperature alarm informs you immediately. After completing the test, the certain information is automatically saved in a registration file.
Furmmark can be performed on Windows on all Nvidia and AMD graphics cards and also compatible with multi-gpu systems. Practical: if you already use a version of the GPU-Z or GPU shark, you can call it directly in the Furmark start window via a button.
Good to know: PC benchmarking tools have been created like Furmark to put the GPU at its limits. This can cause high temperatures and cause damage to hardware. Therefore, be sure to ensure sufficient cooling, especially for overclocked graphic cards, so that it does not do not deny it in the smoke during the test.
1.4. Sisoft Sandra
Sisoft Sandra («System Analyzer, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant») is a modular and benchmark system analysis program with over 60 different tools for the detection of hardware and software. The tool significantly provides more information than the Windows devices manager. For example, you will learn which CPU and graphic card are installed in the system and how much RAM has. Sandra also gives you suggestions on how to generally improve system performance. A large database is available for optimizations.

In addition, the software also contains a series of analysis modules, including reference parameters for CPU, graphics card, hard drive, RAM, CD and DVD Drives, Network, as well as Internet and WLAN connections. The areas can be compared individually or through an overall index (in which the results of the individual tests flow in). For example, a total of eight individual tests are used for the evaluation of the overall CPU performance index. How often and how long these individual tests must be performed can be determined individually. It is therefore possible to save the results such as HTML, TXT or XML, print it or place it on an FTP server.
Tipp: So that the hardware does not burn on the Nirvana during the test, you also have the possibility to specify the upper limits for the hardware temperature and the fan speed.
Sisoft Sandra Lite is free for private use. For commercial use, it is possible to buy Sandra Pro Business (from 149.99 euros), Sandra Engineer (from 249.99 euros) and Sandra Enterprise (from 1500 euros) on the manufacturer’s website.
