How to make your dreams come true and achieve your goals

Whatever our life goals, professional or personal, a journey is always necessary to achieve them. If you want to become a better person, develop new skills, take a new professional step or lose weight, all of this requires time and an action strategy.

“Nothing is achieved without effort!” » This was the litany that my father told me when I was a child, certainly obsessed by the many dreams that he had failed to realize in his life. And it’s a reality. If you have dreams, you will have to take action to see them come true.

Sometimes we wait for some sort of divine providence, hoping that this dream job will fail or that our extra pounds will miraculously evaporate overnight, giving way to an Apollo-like body. We postpone the triggering of our dreams until a hypothetical tomorrow because we don’t know which direction to take to materialize them.

«Intelligence is not mandatory for entrepreneurial or creative success. It helps, but determination and enthusiasm are more important. »

“I’ve been dreaming of writing this book for 10 years! » Truly ? Where are the first drafts? How many scribbled pages are wandering around your desk? If you can’t answer these questions, it’s not a dream, just a wish.

One thing is certain, for a dream to become reality, it must be driven by passion. The one that pushes you to get up early in the morning to train, to run an extra 5 kilometers or to work to improve.

Passion is the fuel of your new life, passion makes the dream tangible. Passion fuels your tenacity. When everything is against you, when possibilities are limited, when doors are closed, your passion will allow you to defy circumstances.

Draw your dreams

For a long time I had dreams that didn’t come true. I still have some though. Most of the time, nothing really stood in their way except my lack of vision.

Dreams are sometimes blurry. We have a nebulous idea, but nothing concrete. For example, you want to write a book but you don’t have a theme. You want to lose weight, but exactly how much? What is your healthy weight? The first step to activating your dreams is to draw them. Take some time to think about it. We are busy with all kinds of activities in our days and waste a lot of time on useless things.

“If I had spent the same amount of time chasing my dreams as I did on Facebook or watching television, my life would be very different.”

Does this mean anything to you? Try to reduce parasitic activities, those that take you away from your fulfillment. Who among you has ever felt accomplished after spending fifteen minutes on Facebook? Spend the same amount of time exercising, reading a book or playing sports and you will feel in a completely different state of mind.

So take time to draw your dreams, to engrave them. Our dreams are most of the time in their raw state, like this pile of clay that the potter or sculptor takes in his hands. At this point the clay is no longer needed. And then, slowly, gesture after gesture, he will give it a shape, which at first may seem awkward but whose purpose will prove pleasing to the eye, artistic and useful.

“Keep your best wishes close to your heart and see what happens”

Tony DeLiso, Legacy: The Power Within

The same goes for our dreams and ambitions. From the shapeless mass you will have to eliminate the material that is not needed to precisely form your objective. To do this, take some time to think. I know, we don’t necessarily like spending time doing nothing and daydreaming, but that’s exactly what you need at this point.

Activate your dreams

Your vision is clearer now. You know where you’re going. To activate your dreams, talk about them to those around you. This makes them concrete, they become alive in your head and in that of your friends who will not fail to remind you.

When we don’t dare talk about our dreams, it is often for fear of having to take action to make them come true, because they seem too big for us. Talking about it means dealing with our dreams and with the eyes of others. Do you feel too small, not capable?

Jim Abbott was an unusual baseball player. Born into the world without a right hand, he still managed to become a professional baseball player as a starting pitcher! He would put a left-handed glove on his right arm and very quickly put it on his left hand after making the shot. Despite his handicap, he played 10 seasons in MLB and had a very successful career. In 1991 he was ranked 3rd best pitcher in the league.

Rely on a few trusted friends, capable of exercising value judgment on what you do, and make your dreams come true without further delay!

Access your dreams

Now is the time to act… or almost! Every dream is just wishful thinking if it is not accompanied by a strategy to make it come true. The decisions you make today prepare your situation tomorrow. What do you need to change today to achieve your goals? What behaviors should you adopt, what way of thinking should you embrace?

Some decide to get up early in the morning to start a new daily routine (prayer, meditation, training, sport, etc.), others change their diet or their attitude towards others.

In any case, establish a regular schedule. If you want to be a writer, write. Everyday. If you want to compose, listen to music every day, expand your musical knowledge and… compose! Start becoming who you want to be.

Success is who you are today, not at the end of your life. Never take refuge behind lack of time. It’s better to dedicate ten minutes of your time a day than to not work on your project at all.

Don’t stop!

Never imagine yourself at the top. The best, whatever their field, are those who never stop learning. Anyone who thinks they have arrived is actually arrested. Only a humble position allows us to always move forward. Your dreams have this price: a long and wonderful adventure
