Photjet -image editing and design in the browser?

With Photojet, another provider wants to get a support point in the area of ​​the online image processing. We therefore took a closer look at the current version and clarify the question if the online variant is suitable as an alternative to classic software.

Online services instead of the local program

The trend in the PC sector clearly goes to the applications supported by the browser. Also ex -weights are also like the offices suite are available in the meantime with almost the same design and the same function of the local brothers and sisters. The advantage is obvious: no installation effort, software always ready for use and flexible license and payment models for the provider. Disadvantages here are possible problems with data security, availability only with active internet connection or performance, to name just a few.

And it was these problems that also occurred during the photojet test. The online service, which, in addition to the pure processing of images, also offers design models, for example for invitations and a variety of models for photographic collage, it only works with Adobe Flash. This means that the use is eliminated, for example, on the iPads and the user attentive to security will take into consideration even several times in view of the new orgies of patch on the orgies of monthly patches whether it really wants to report this relic in the browser due to an online photographic publisher. Other manufacturers already show what is already possible with HTML 5 and modern browsers.

Ordered yes, exciting no. With very moderate performance, the tool offers the usual rotation, pruning, color and image effects, some special filters and text functions in the Wordart style. All in all, nothing that does not offer a better freeware at the local level. The publisher is therefore more aimed at layperson and beginners that the images want to review quickly. For this reason, what is offered with the «car filter» and some stickers is sufficient to «beautify», but not moreover.

Also stupid that the images cannot be open directly from the cloud stores or save there. You would assume that, especially with a web service. You can only open the images at the local level and also protect them if you get up from the export function to social networks.

The design models are an attempt to bring some desktop publication to the browser. However, the models are rather average, all in English and in the end not better than the additions to programs such as Microsoft Publisher, part of Office 365.

The third function remains: collage.

There are numerous basic models here, some of which are also very captivating and present images. However, if you know the software of photographic service providers such as CEWE, you will quickly be Sober here, since producers can at least keep up with these services. Especially for the printing area and «photographic gifts», the models are simply too scarce. For example, there is also a simple calendar model. The focus of the models is clearly in the social media area. There are banner models, contribution models, YouTube banners and much more for Facebook and Google.

As a rule, the models themselves are limited to drawing photos in the free frame and to adapt texts or to add clipart.

And the price?

For «lau», the offer would still be acceptable if it is addressed to the occasional user. However, this cannot be earned. For the «Plus» subscription with multiple models and functions, $ 35 are due.

For the price, it is possible to obtain solutions that can be used from the previous year on the shelves of the electrical markets, in our opinion the currently better choice, since the number of models, operations and performance compared to the version of purchase, which does not require flash.
