Among the many obstacles that prevent us from doing so live our dreamswhat is often at the top of the list is our will. Either due to lack of motivation or lack of self-confidencetoo often we cower in our comfort zones comfort zone.
If this security turns out to be pleasant in the present moment, over time it ends up taking on a bitter taste: that of regrets! What are your impossible dreams, what are your unattainable goals? What are the obstacles that prevent you from achieving them? What is holding you back from success, fulfillment, or happiness?
Have the courage to expose your dreams
To start making your dreams come true, talk about it. Share your project with your friends. If they are true friends, they will be able to encourage you when you don’t feel capable, they will be able to give you impartial advice on your work and they will not judge you if you encounter difficulties in certain phases.
It’s always difficult to express your dreams. On the one hand it makes them real, they take shape and become reality once they are talked about. As if they escaped your dream moments to become a binding obligation. It’s not the realization of our dreams that scares us, but the path to take to get there!
This first step is a trigger, so move forward step by step.
Crossing the threshold of uncertainty
Will you have the strength to get to the end? Do you really have what it takes to get there? Is it really worth the sacrifice? Can you really take this financial risk to get started? Our culture does not invite us to take risks. Also, it is interesting to note that where we say “Take a risk”say the English speakers « Take the opportunity ».
Uncertainty is an evil that gnaws at you, insatiable, it feeds on your worries and devours your dreams. However, to make the impossible possible, you will have to overcome it and be bold. All these questions are legitimate, you need to ask yourself to avoid risking failure.
However, sometimes these questions do not lead to any reflection, they just turn into anxiety and tighten your chest. Stress should never become suffocating; when this happens, there is a lack of balance in your life. More than once it happened to me that I got caught up in a thousand things, wanting to do everything well but being overwhelmed by stress by doing too much. I had to make choices and give up certain things, maybe for a while.
Take the time to think about your project, in complete tranquility, away from the frenetic activities of the week. Isolate yourself if necessary. Personally I like to have time for myself. I am a husband and father satisfied by my family, I am very attached to spending time with those I love but sometimes I need to be alone to redefine my projects, to be able to daydream, let my mind wander and give myself new ideas.
Thus free from daily stress, more serene, you should be a better judge of the feasibility of your project, of the will and strength you can dedicate to it.
Overcome discouragement
Sometimes you have to make hundreds of mistakes to be successful. I realize this is not the most encouraging sentence in this article. Sometimes you have to work a lot to find the right idea and put it down in black and white. The blank page could be your worst opponent. If you are not just a follower, but you innovate, try to bring new ideas, then you have a good chance of experiencing discouragement on multiple occasions.
Jean-Jacques Goldman, murdered by the press of the time, is today one of the French’s favorite personalities, one of the most prolific and successful composers of our country. He abandoned his singing career about ten years ago and yet the public is still waiting for him. We like it or we don’t like it, but a career like this, far from the dictates of the profession, commands respect.
Steve Jobs is a child adopted by a modest American family, he is neither a student nor an exceptional developer, yet he will create one of the most powerful and creative companies of recent years.
Walt Disney was declared uncreative by the editor of a newspaper who fired him. Many of his early projects were failures before he became the successful entertainer every child knows.
James Cameron almost lost his career after directing the horrible “Piranha 2.” The studios never wanted to hear from him again and yet, with perseverance, a few years later he released his “Terminator”, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, a rising star of the time, and became the director of numerous successful films.
It is always difficult to innovate and you will meet people who are less engaged and who will be more successful on the easy path. That doesn’t mean they are right. If you struggle to find new ideas, persevere, someone must need you.
The comparison
There will always be those who are bigger and stronger than you. Comparison stops you, clips your wings. Comparison highlights your weaknesses, destabilizes and makes you appear talentless. In the distorting mirror game, the brain can be very strong. Some people see themselves as much bigger than they are and others are always too small.
This apparent weakness is in no way a handicap. Rather than comparing yourself, get inspired! Also look for your differences and the audience you can reach. What news can you bring? Not all entrepreneurs will be Steve Jobs and not all composers will be Mozart. Not every band that rehearses in their garage will have the career of U2, yet some are extremely talented.
Remember, success, and especially talent, is not always measured in numbers! It’s one of the distortions of our society: “Is this on TV? » Find your audience, find success with the demographic your product/service/talent is aimed at and you will already have your share of success. So, aim higher!
The criticism
You can’t escape it today. All of us, behind our computer keyboards, are potential critics. Today everyone expresses themselves, with more or less violence, on almost everything. Your loved ones, your colleagues, Internet users, everyone will have an opinion about your project.
Listen to them and solve them. Take the useful criticism to help you progress, leave the rest! There are different attitudes towards criticism. There are the vindictive, the docile, those who retreat and those who persevere. If you are sure of the quality of your work, roll up your sleeves and don’t let it influence you.
Don’t wait for the right time
A few years ago I was composing songs. I liked it. I’m not very good, it was just fun, a hobby. And then I moved. My guitar and my notebooks have gathered dust. From time to time I had some ideas but I never put them into practice and due to the lack of an artistic project I ended up giving them up. Lack of time, I told myself, my weeks were already full.
And then, even though it’s not a very serious project, I told myself it was stupid! There will never be a good time, a quieter time, a good time. The right time to treat myself is now, while it is possible. So I took out my notebooks, tuned the guitar and tried to write a few words. I don’t have much money, no musicians by my side, it’s just for fun
Let’s be clear, this is not a professional project and I don’t have a developed talent for writing, my compositions are unpretentious, but I wanted to encourage you. If you are talented in your field, even more so you should do it roll up your sleeves and get to work. NOW !
There are a thousand and one reasons to postpone your dreams until a hypothetical tomorrow. Live them now. Don’t wait. Overcome your past failures, if any, and face the tomorrow that will bring you success!
