In 2002 I created my first site. I had already tried various small experiments, but this was my first serious project. Passionate about cinema since adolescence, it is towards this theme that I naturally turned. DVD was starting to become popular, which influenced the name of my site: DVDNet.
We were already talking about it SEO at that moment, but no SEO and the techniques were very different from those of today, even less learned. I remember my first days when, very moved, I counted my firsts visitors. I particularly remember that day when, after a few weeks of existence, I reached the barrier of one hundred visitors a day. I ran from my office to the living room to give the good news to my wife, who smiled kindly at me and said «great!» ”, without really understanding what I was talking about.
This is often the first criteria we carefully monitor when starting a site. How many unique visitors Did you get lost on my website? You created a site or paid someone to build it, now you naturally expect it the visit curves rise towards their zenith.
But all you need is maximum clicks to your website?
SEO ok, but for qualified traffic!
There’s a big difference between getting traffic and getting it good type of trafficespecially if you spend time and money generating it. What do you prefer: a thousand daily visitors who arrive on your site somewhat by chance, most of whom are not interested in what you do and from which you will get five leads or a hundred targeted visitors of which fifteen will become potential customers ?
Depending on the consumer segment you are targeting, it may be much more interesting to have a publication on a niche blog than in the mass media. If your site’s sales are declining, visitor numbers aren’t necessarily the solution to your problem.
Qualified traffic means the share of visitors who are truly interested in what you offer, those who correspond to the target you are addressing. It doesn’t matter what you sell, if the people who visit your site are not your target audience, your revenue will not increase one iota.
The bounce rate: a good indicator!
Rather than focusing all your attention on number of visitorstake a look at bounce rate of your site. This indicates the tendency of Internet users to prolong their visit to your site. The higher this number, the more it shows that they are not staying on your site. However, if this value is low, then you will know that your visitors don’t just read one page and leave, but that they tend to browse multiple pages.
In the case of a blog, we can understand that the bounce rate is high. Internet users come to get the information they need and can leave immediately. It’s not ideal for you, but it’s understandable. It’s up to you to find a way to retain them by offering them, for example, other resources on the same topic. On the other hand, on a commercial site, the bounce rate is of paramount importance!
THE number of pages per session and the average session duration they also require special attention. If visitors leave your site after a few seconds, there is a good chance that you are attracting a group of Internet users who are absolutely not interested in your content and who arrive at your site through a series of poorly chosen keywords in your SEO (this can also indicate a disastrous user experience on your site).
How to get qualified visitors?
1) Choose your keywords precisely.
THE free and natural references it’s important. On the one hand becauseit is durable if it is well built. On the other hand, because it allows you to aim, through keywordsinterested and interesting visitors. These keywords will allow you to position yourself correctly in Google search results. A tip: don’t try to be too generic, actually be extremely precise in your positioning, think about a niche strategy.
2) Paid traffic
Bring to high visibility and helps boost a website launch, increase sales, or publicize a promotion or new item. It also works on the principle of keywords but has none no lasting effect. When you no longer pay, the source dries up quickly.
3) Acquire traffic on social networks
Social networks are certainly the the most effective way to get useful traffic. Depending on your field of business, finding Internet users where they are may be the best strategy. More importantly, they will choose to follow you or like you. They are the ones who make this choice, so you get a high percentage of qualified leadswhich will then have to be converted.
From now on, when you go to look at traffic data, don’t just look at the number of visitors and go further. Maybe your numbers will suddenly look much more encouraging.
